When I launched A Strand of Gold last September, I was full of enthusiasm about my website and the contribution I might make to the Blog. I even stated that I would post something once a month! It began well, but then I got carried away with drafting the second book; all my time and energy went into what has resulted in Hope Dares to Blossom.
Meeting regularly with my Southampton Writers’ Group, I was lucky to have a wonderful mix of supporters and people willing to critique my efforts – and so I ploughed on, forgetting all about my commitment to the Blog. In fact, my enthusiasm was so great that I produced six chapters before realising that I was going down a rabbit hole. The plot, at that stage was contrived, and so I started again.
One of the really nice things about having other writers around you is that they ask questions that are very much to the point. I find this quite liberating because it almost gives ‘permission’ to walk away from ideas that are not working and provides the spark for something that eventually develops into a better first draft.
I’ve enjoyed all new and additional research for Hope Dares to Blossom, and especially seeking out the orchids that might look similar to the one that features so significantly in the story. Another excellent reason to return, once again, to my spiritual home.
